The Sagebrush Cowboyography Association, based out of Buffalo, Wyoming
started with three cowboy poets who put on a gathering of local cowboy poets and
musicians in February of 1993.  As with most cowboy gatherings it was met with
truck loads of enthusiasm.  Inspired by the support which was offered, the three
set out again in 1994 to put on another gathering.  This time they recruited help
with planning and organizing from more local cowboy entertainers.  The Gathering
was held in March at the
Historic Sheridan Inn , a location which oozes with more
cowboy atmosphere than a load of fat cattle.

The result of the second gathering was the birth of a new association.  It was
difficult choosing a name which didn't favor a certain location or state.  It was
decided that
"sagebrush" covers most of the west, so the name stuck.  The term
"
cowboyography" is a term which applies to everything which a cowboy has ever,
will ever, would ever or can ever do.  That is how the
Sagebrush
Cowboyography Association (SCA) was formed.

The goal of the
SCA is to promote cowboy poetry, singing and public
performances through cultural activities and in doing this, preserve the heritage of
the western cowboy, his music and his way of life.  Members go into the elementary
and secondary schools to expose the students to this type of performance art but
also for instruction.  Some of the members instruct the students on how to write
cowboy poetry and perform it in front of an audience.  There is an annual
Cowboy
Kidz Contest held in conjunction with the annual Sagebrush Cowboy Roundup.
This has instilled in many children a growing interest in the literary arts as well as
the history of the American Cowboy.
Charter members of the Sagebrush Cowboyography Association,
Deb Sustrich and Charlie Cook.
